Dear whoever is reading this,

“Lockdown”

“Social distancing”

“Stay safe”

“Stay home!”

These are words and directives that have become commonplace, and downright repetitive.

The world has become more unified, an ever-widening global community in the face of this unprecedented (in my lifetime) disaster.

After the initial shock/horror of the havoc this pandemic is wreaking on the world, many people are learning to adjust to the new environment in which they find themselves.

Those people who see the half-full glass are keeping busy doing things they were just too busy to do before. Spring cleaning. Making their way through that stack of unread books. Dancing to loud music at home in lieu of heading to the gym. Discovering the breadth of Netflix.

People are reaching out across social media and pouring their hearts out to family, friends and total strangers: connecting with the outside world, sharing their love, their fears, but also sharing the new more positive directions their lives are taking.

I guess the world really has gone viral in more ways than one!

As for me, well cooking has always been a big love of mine and now I have the time to go through my collection of 500+ cookbooks (don’t ask – book stores practically roll out the red carpet when they see me coming).

Cooking (which includes baking by the way) is something I can share and so that’s what this is all about. Sharing recipes and stories. Some are my own. Others are not but I give the authors credit where credit is due

I was going to call this blog, wait for it, RECIPES FOR DISASTER but then I remembered one of my favourite books by Gabriel Garcia Marquez called Love in the Time of Cholera and so I’ve named this blog CREATIVE COOKING IN THE TIME OF CORONA. That sounds better, no?

With love from your stir-crazy cooking buddy,

Annie
